As a proud Marathon resident and candidate for City Council, I recognize that protecting our environment is not only essential to our quality of life—it’s vital to our economy, our tourism, and our future generations. The City of Marathon has already made important progress on pressing environmental challenges, and as your councilmember, I will ensure we keep building on that momentum.
Acknowledging Our Progress
  - Wastewater Improvements – Marathon has committed to phasing out shallow injection wells and transitioning to deep wells by 2028. This is a critical step to protect our nearshore waters from nutrient and pharmaceutical pollution. I will work to make sure this project stays on track and on budget.

  - Canal Restoration – Our community has invested millions in canal restoration and water quality improvements. These efforts are already making a difference in water clarity and marine health. I will support expanding these initiatives to neighborhoods that need it most.

  - Resiliency Planning – The city has completed a vulnerability assessment mapping areas most at risk from tidal flooding and sea-level rise. This forward-looking work positions us for state and federal resilience funding. I will champion using these findings to guide smart infrastructure investments.

  - Marine & Habitat Protection – With derelict vessels being removed from our waters and coral restoration programs underway, Marathon is actively tackling threats to our marine ecosystems. I will advocate for policies that strengthen these efforts and support our local partners in conservation.

  - Community Awareness – From workshops on storm preparedness to education about invasive species, our city and residents are increasingly engaged in protecting the Keys. I will work to expand these outreach programs so every household feels part of the solution.

My Commitment Going Forward
Marathon’s future depends on balancing growth with preservation. On City Council, I will:
  - Ensure wastewater and stormwater projects are completed to the highest standards.

  - Push for additional canal dredging, restoration, and monitoring programs.

  - Secure state and federal resilience funding for flood protection and climate adaptation.

  - Support local coral and seagrass restoration projects critical to our fisheries and tourism.

  - Promote responsible boating, fishing, and development that safeguard our fragile ecosystem.

Bottom line: Marathon has taken real steps forward, but the work is not finished. I will bring experienced leadership and a collaborative spirit to City Council to protect the waters, reefs, and neighborhoods that make our city unique. Together, we can ensure Marathon remains a resilient, thriving community for generations to come.
